Rocky Mountain Columbine - <i>Aquilegia caerules</i>

The lavender and white columbine was made the State Flower of Colorado on April 4th 1899 and as such it is protected by law to prevent digging up or uprooting the flower. It is an early summer flower and grows abuntantly in the Yankee Boy Basin near Ouray, Colorado where this photo was taken.
