Canadian Parks West

Seattle Seattle
23 May 2004 - 4 photos
The first day before the Trek actually was spent wandering around Seattle checking out the waterfront and Pike Place market. Also spent a fair amount of time worrying about my luggage which had been left in Philadelphia rather than being transferred with me to Seattle!
North Cascades North Cascades
24 May 2004 - 13 photos
The North Cascades was our first taste of the mountains and snow. We stopped off at Rainy Pass for an impromptu snowball fight! We also stopped by the traditional town of Winthrop.
Okanagan Valley Okanagan Valley
25 May 2004 to 26 May 2004 - 14 photos
Across the border to Canada and into the wine-producing valley of the Okanagan. We had a look around the Tinhorn Creek winery where we tried out some of the wines they produce there.
Revelstoke and Yoho National Parks Revelstoke and Yoho National Parks
26 May 2004 to 28 May 2004 - 22 photos
First of many National Parks we would be visiting in Canada. We also passed through Glacier National Park and stopped at the town of Golden. Sights included the Natural Bridge and Emerald Lake.
Lake Louise and Moraine Lake Lake Louise and Moraine Lake
27 May 2004 - 16 photos
Our first stops in Banff National Park were at Lake Louise (together with hundreds of Japanese tourists!), where we hiked up as far as Mirror Lake (before the snow became too deep!), followed by Moraine Lake.
Banff National Park and Calgary Banff National Park and Calgary
28 May 2004 to 30 May 2004 - 51 photos
Heading further west into Banff National Park and on to Banff itself. In the National Park Johnston Canyon, Castle Lookout, the Crowfoot Glacier and the magnificently blue Peyto Lake. We also had plenty of time to spend in Banff itself as well as having a day out to Calgary for a splash of city life.
Jasper National Park Jasper National Park
31 May 2004 to 2 Jun 2004 - 28 photos
First stop in Jasper National Park was the Athabasca Glacier where we took a few hours out for a guided walk on the glacier - cold but very good fun! Heading north to our base at Jasper we also stopped off at Athabasca Falls. In Jasper we went for a mountain bike ride and down to Maligne Lake.
Wells Gray Provinical Park Wells Gray Provinical Park
3 Jun 2004 to 4 Jun 2004 - 19 photos
Wells Gray was one of the highlights of our Trek. We were to spend a night away from the van by canoeing to a remote campsite on Clearwater Lake and canoeing back again the following day. The lake was stunning - crisp, clear water clean enough to drink but very cold when you try to swim in it! We also stopped at Helmcken Falls and went on a horse ride to Moul Falls.
Vancouver Vancouver
7 Jun 2004 to 8 Jun 2004 - 13 photos
Vancouver was one of our few stops off in big cities and was definately one of the best cities! We camped in the shadow of the Lions Gate Bridge just across the water from Stanley Park. We hired bikes to ride round Stanley Park and relaxed on the beach.
Vancouver Island Vancouver Island
9 Jun 2004 to 11 Jun 2004 - 49 photos
Across the Strait of Georgia from Vancouver is Vancouver Island - only reachable with a ferry. We staying practically on the beach in Tofino where we got to go on a Whale-watching trip (excellent fun!) and walks in the rainforest of the Pacific Rim National Park and down at Ucluelet.
Victoria Victoria
12 Jun 2004 - 31 photos
Our last stop on the Trek was in the city of Victoria which is the capital of British Columbia. Very nice city and almost home-from-home with it's very British feel (including London buses!).
